About

About Under the Loblollies

Brief synopsis: I like to make pretty things, I love God, science, people, and laughing...especially at myself.

The Long Version:

We're a working studio where still pictures come to life through a wide range of forms: acrylics, wool, stained glass, wood burning, cement, and more. Every piece is rooted in a love for creation, a desire to reflect beauty, and a hope to make a difference.

Whether it’s a functional sculpture, a mosaic sunrise, or a comforting gift for someone you can’t be with, our work is shaped by the meeting of art, science, and faith. Through initiatives like Art with Immediate Impact, we also extend that creativity into community care.

We’re small, flexible, and growing—with hearts set on meaningful making. Thanks for being here with us, under the loblollies.

Our Collaborators

At Under the Loblollies, we are working to build a network of artists to collaborate with who share our heart to help through art.

Our Story

The REALLY long version:

This story begins a long time ago and bears careful consideration of what to share without overburdening you, the reader, with too much.  So, as my husband would say, any whooo - I am Lea, I'm part of that generation that has finally been recognized as really resilient and always learning new technologies and implementing change - born in the latter half of the 1970s, my life have spanned so many technological advances and changes in our world that it's impossible not to be curious and flexible in thought.

That said, I was raised by a pioneer among women...not the prairie kind, but the highly intelligent and analytical kind that was a pioneer for women in the IT career field.  The first woman in so many positions and job places, my mother quietly and respectfully fought for equal rights and pay within her workspace as well as brought expertise and creativity to her field.  My mother, Faith, was also a teacher - she taught all of her children (as well as people in her community, even today) how to use their hands to create.  Each of us kids came away with a different skill set but it was built on intelligent analyzing of the subject, and careful piecing of the final product.

Armed with the base knowledge of sewing, mechanics, and fiber arts, I have attempted many art styles in many medias and have come to one conclusion: I like to do a lot of different things!

But all of that aside, I have been blessed by God to practice that art in this space.  I am also married to a wonderful imperfect man, Scott, who supports my art (and is my biggest fan!!) as well as shares his gifting in photography with Under the Loblollies.

I am so excited that this platform allows me to create art, love my neighbors and community...and hopefully build something really cool in the future...did I mention that I'm a biologist and Science is COOL?!?!  I can't wait to share my vision for the SIC center here in my community (it's SIC...get it...I know, I should be embarassed but I'm not).  But in the mean time, help support our neighbors and share the love with a proverbial cup of coffee or a piece of art in support of ART with IMMEDIATE IMPACT!

If you've read this far, you're my kind of person!
